Tri Checklist

All things you should bring to your next tri

Sylvi's Tri-Checklist


  • Towel
  • Timing Chip
  • Ankle strap for chip
  • ID, USAT membership card, a bit of money
  • Hand sanitizer, toilet paper (Not all porta-potties have this)
  • Tri-Suit
  • Race Belt
  • Water bottle, maybe gatorade, extra water for before the race starts and after transition closes
  • Water bottle to rinse off sand
  • Bag, backpack, box, bucket, your choice
  • Flash light
  • google map (etc.) to race site
  • sidewalk chalk or helium balloon to mark your set-up
  • Plastic bag for Gear Check, for rain protection of gear and yourself
  • Bodyglide
  • Sunscreen
  • Dry clothes


  • Goggles
  • Swim cap (in your race packet)
  • Socks and cap (neoprene - for cold water)
  • Wet suit
  • Flip Flops
  • Plastik bags to put on wet suit


  • Helmet (!!!!)
  • Shades
  • Bike shoes (maybe on pedals)
  • Power/clif (etc.) bar, gel, mounted on bike
  • Water bottle in bike cage
  • Sleeves
  • Inner tube, tire levers, pump, Allen wrenches


  • Shoes
  • Socks
  • Hat
  • Fuel Belt or small water bottle
  • Clif/power (etc.) bar or gel.

And remember:

  • Chip needs to be on your ankle
  • Never without helmet (buckled)
  • Memorize your path from "swim in" to bike, from bike to "bike out", etc.
  • Enjoy the race
